My pages this weekend were all about commentary. I just felt like I needed to write out all my thoughts and have long conversations with God! I just love when that happens! Tamara Arcilla’s new set in the Print and Pray Shop, Friends 4Ever, has the most beautiful florals, and I pretty much stuck them on every page!
I’m not sure how I found myself in Lamentations & Zephaniah this weekend, but there I was. I read through Lamentations, and you are drawn in from the first verse: “How lonely sits the city, that was full of people.” Jeremiah certainly had prose, just as was the relenting of Zephaniah. Both books lament over the destruction of Jerusalem plagued by sin. He was utterly devastated and gave a profound insight into the judgement of the Lord. The last few chapters speak of Jeremiah placing his trust and hope in the Lord, and that is what truly struck me.
17 Peace has been stripped away, and I have forgotten what prosperity is.
18 I cry out, “My splendor is gone! Everything I had hoped for from the Lord is lost!”
19 The thought of my suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words.
20 I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss.
21 Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this:
22 The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease.
23 Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.
24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”
25 The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him.
26 So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.
It must be something about the long winter we had, but after all of Jeremiah & Zephaniah’s relenting, the last chapter of Lamentations felt like the first taste of summer to me. After the bitterness of his lamenting over Jerusalem, they found hope and felt the redeeming love from the Lord.
